Hello all,
On September 25th this year, a 2nd ever recorded sighting of a Lucy's Warbler came to Kelowna!! The bird was seen close to the lake at Rotary Marsh, in the park across from it! The bird was not seen after for over 1 month.
On November 12th a team of birdwatchers went looking for a very rare Green Heron seen that day in Rotary Marsh. Along they're way there, the stopped at the park opposite them to look around. To their amazing surprise they rediscovered the Lucy's Warbler in the exact location!!! Birders from Vancouver,Kelowna,Victoria etc, came to see this mega rarity bird. I went in the evening to try see him, but only heard him.
I arrived the next day at 11:45 am to see this bird again. I ran into a group of birders already photographing it and a very late and rare Least Flycatcher! I got a pic of the Least but the Lucy's was just to jumpy. I went back to the marsh to see the Green Heron, but I missed it in the open by 10 minutes. I went back and forth like this with success with the Lucy's (a very distant picture) but I could not track down the Green Heron. I was quite disappointed, but I do hope that it will stick around for another chance at seeing it!
Cheers

Kelowna Extreme Rarity Sighting!
This post is a ways off its time....
Hello everyone,
In my city of Kelowna we had a awesome rarity! A Forster's Tern!!!! The bird was seen around October 16-17 and was a real treat.
I set off on October 17th to the designated spot Mouth of Mission Creek. The bird was seen earlier that morning, and I had did not have high hopes for it was about 6 hours after that sighting. I arrived and found about 120 gulls. I excitedly scanned the bar for the Tern and then I saw it!! I was so pumped!!! I reached for camera and looked up again and it was gone.... I was so confused and disappointed, I stayed for a another 1/2 hour looking for him but no luck. Then 2 girls walked out onto the sandbar and they were spooking the flock. I wanted a quick look before they took off and then I saw the Forster's Tern again!!! Right then WHOOSH the flock took off. I was fuming, and quickly hopped on to the sandbar scanning the returning gulls, and the I SAW IT AGAIN! I quickly snapped some half decent photos of this rare bird, and hopped on my bike happy as can be!!

Europe Birding Trip
Hello Everyone,
This past 3 weeks has been a blast! The trip started off with a day of rest in Hungary and some lifers at my Grandma's!
The next day went through of a lot of driving through Austria and spending the night there with a great birding stud in the morning! Another 1000 kilometers later I was in Germany! 4 days were spent there in total with combinations of birding, touring Bonn and Cologne, and exploring the Rhein River! I racked up quite a few species there!
Rose-Ringed Parakeet
Common Sandpiper
And a ton of Eurasian Jay's
My family and I then moved on towards Strasbourg and Switzerland. Strasbourg was a favorite town so far and Switzerland we only really drove fast through Switzerland. We arrived for are first of 8 days in Italy. We stayed at beautiful Lago Maggiore for a day and explored the hilltop city of Varese. We then moved on to coastal towns like Lerici and the Cinque Terra! I snapped a beautiful picture of the evening sky in Lerici!

We stayed in Pisa for a few days and saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa and explored the town of Luca.
Then we stayed 3 days in VENICE! It was still a beautiful day in rain, the place is really amazing with its canals, buildings, streets, and the amount of tourists! We then were on our last 3 days of our journey, which we would spend in Hungary!
I went on one of those days to a birding banding center. It was a great experience seeing a quite a good amount of lifers, my highlight being a Moustached Warbler!
The trip was a really great experience and I hope to go again soon.
